COMPLETE REPORT OF URUGUAY’S GENERAL SITUATION

Geographical Situation

Uruguay is a Latin American country located on the Rio de la
Plata and the Atlantic Ocean. Its population is 3,500,000
inhabitants. It is divided in 19 departments, with Montevideo,
the capital city.
Located in the southern area of the country, on the coast of
the Rio de la Plata, Montevideo has a population of nearly
1.5m inhabitants and hosts the Mercosur and Aladi
administrations. It has a deep water port that allows the
entrance of large-draft ships.

Security

Criminal statics are the lowest in South America. There have
been no kidnappings for the last 15 years.

Personal Security

Statistically personal security is paramount and controlled in
Uruguay and can be compared favorably with most stable
societies around the world. Criminal statistics are low with
few homicides taking place. Kidnappings are non-existent
compared with neighboring countries.

Tourism

Uruguay has successfully operated is International Tourism. On
the east coast is a well-known city popular with international
tourists called Punta Del Este. There are five stars hotels
including a casino. Gastronomically it is comparable to some of
the best cities of the world. Punta del Este is a unique city with
several beaches on the Atlantic Ocean characterized by the
divide between calm beaches without backwash for families
with children and beaches with large swells, ideal for surfing.

Agriculture & Cattle breeding

The main production of the country is in agricultural and cattle.
It exports its products worldwide, specially meat, wool and
grain. It is free of cattle illness which assures sales of meat all
around the world.

Economic & Political Stability

Uruguay has maintained throughout its recent history a stable
economic policy. Although the ideology of its government
changed in different electoral periods, there have been no
great changes as far as economic policy is concerned. The
policies of exports incentives and tourist development have
remained the ideological mainstay for the benefit of its
inhabitants.

Legal

Uruguay is known for maintaining stability . It has a historical
respect of companies that invest in the country and the free
movement of their funds. There are no currency restrictions
for the funds entering or leaving the country. It is important
to emphasize the stability of the rule of law and the manner
in which governance abides by court decisions.

Economic Policies in the Long Term

The development of two paper industries in Uruguay opened a
market for the demand of trees. Forestation is key to meeting
the demands of the future as current levels will not be able to
meet future demands.

Fuels

Uruguay has no oil reserves. They are developing alternative
gas from grain plants of Ethanol and Biodiesel. They purchase
electrical energy from their neighboring countries and thus
have already installed the first wind fan generator on the
coastal area to gain energy independence.

International Agreements

International prices Uruguay uses,
qualify it for signing agreements of cooperation and free
commerce with the U.S.A. and with Europe and Asia. The sale of
its products is without retentions and/or taxes.
